Analysis of the Way an Ex-Friend Texted Me

I used to have a friend whom I texted with, but his texting habits led our friendship to fall apart. He would text me on a daily basis. Once I gradually grew apart from him, he started using unfamiliar phone numbers, then eventually confessed that it was him. I would ignore the texts, yet he sometimes would text me at a different time to see if I would reply. If I didn’t, he would text me a couple of days after. Something that he frequently started off with was “wazzahhh!” along with an emoji. Another term he would use was “hello”. One of his favorite emojis was the one winking with the wild tongue out. The emoji would be used about two to four times within one text message. His texting was extremely different from others texting since his texting was immature for my taste.

What Do I Think About Anderson Silva?

Anderson Silva was a defender of the middleweight world champion title. He gained respect and honor because of his victories, but it takes more than skills to be a respected person. In 2013, he fought against Chris Weidman, a contender of the world champion title. I watched that fight through a video on YouTube and witnessed an unexpected attitude from Silva. As time progressed within the fight, Silva seemed to take the fight as a game. Some shocking actions were that Silva was indicating Weidman where to hit him as if Weidman was incompetent. Also, Silva was hardly making any moves on his opponent, which demonstrates a conceited side of Silva. If I were to empathize with Silva within that moment, I wouldn’t have cared how “good” I was at my profession; life can make one realize that one isn’t the best after all. The outcome of this fight, which Weidman won, showed Silva that arrogance leads to disappointment.

Based on the few clips I’ve watched, Silva used certain techniques that helped him win several fights. He mainly used solid jabs to the face and the knee. He’s well known as a “legend” because of how many times he’s defended his title. However, Silva has been caught a few times using marijuana and steroids. When he was accused of this, he defended himself by claiming the information as a misinterpretation and/or it never happened. For a man to compete and use such enhancers that provide advantages that others don’t have isn’t fair. He portrayed the idea of making it to the top disregarding responsibility for one’s own actions. Anyone who wants to be recognized for their work ethic should also demonstrate honesty, which he lacked. No one really knows how long he consumed drugs for while competing; Who knows if Silva would’ve still kept his title if he was drug-free throughout all of the competitions.

The Differences between “Living Wage” and “Forced Socialism” Concepts

Image result for forced socialism vs living wage

There are several topics that create distinct opinions within the Republicans and Democrats such as minimum wage. The terms used to describe this topic are either “forced socialism” or “living wage”. Someone who is for “living wage” might believe that the minimum wage should stay as it is described: “minimum”. They might think that because there are several jobs that require a college degree, minimum wage jobs shouldn’t be considered for a raise. The word “living” reveals the concept of making a “living” with minimum wage, which is far more than one could ask for. On the contrary, people who support “forced socialism” might think that the minimum wage degrades any lifestyle. The word “forced” seems as if corporations have financial control over their employers, which isn’t appreciated by the employers. The phrase conveys the idea that society is being “forced” to compromise their time and effort with a minimum wage. The idea that people try their hardest to support a family and themselves, and just get by with minimum wage might stress, aggravate, or demoralize them. In summary, people will view the “living wage” as morally acceptable while “forced socialism” is viewed as inconsiderate.

My Pentecostal and Math Group Discourse Communities

I’m part of a Pentecostal discourse community and a math discourse community, which have influenced my use of language within both environments. The Pentecostal community consists of Pentecostal members. When someone asks what do Pentecostals believe in, we explain how a Pentecostal believes in getting baptized by the Holy Ghost. We believe that if someone wants to be converted, he or she must acknowledge his or her faults, repent, and become rejuvenated by the Holy Spirit (God). In addition, the math group consists of some peers who sit in around me in math class. So far, we’ve been learning about truth tables and how to determine their accuracy. We have been asked to create a truth table for the following statement: ~(~Q v P). To translate, the ‘v’ means disjunction, and the ‘~’ means false or the opposite (depending on placement). Ultimately, I use religious terms within the Pentecostal community and math terminology in a math community.

My First College-Level English Essay

Image result for procrastinate

Several steps were required to complete my first College-level English essay. Writing this paper wasn’t an assignment that I felt the most confident about since I procrastinated. To start off, after writing a draft of two paragraphs during English class, once I got home, I started typing everything down using my laptop. I eventually recalled that the paper had to be in MLA format, so I watched the “MLA Style Essay Format” and other short, yet helpful videos. While I typed my first draft, I created alternative sentences for the ones that I didn’t like. Once I completed my first draft, I read over the sample essay and contrast it to mine to see what other changes I could make. The next day, I read my draft and eliminated sentences that either didn’t make sense and were irrelevant. Afterward, I read my draft three times, and each time I would make small changes. Finally, I plugged each “completed” draft into the Grammar website to fix the few of the several mistakes, which eventually became my final draft. My paper would’ve probably made more sense if I would’ve planned accordingly.

The “Escape the Female Barfly” Method Won’t Ever Work

Based on the article “Your Escape Plans”, the “Escape the Female Barfly” advice is funny in a pathetic way. It’s encouraging guys to do the bare minimum to attract a girl’s attention while taking advantage of another naïve girl. Besides, some girls might find it misleading and unappealing if they’re in search for something formal. Because the guy would cry out for “help”, he demonstrates that the girl must satisfy his desires by approaching him for interaction to occur. Since little to no effort is being put forth by the guy, it shows that he doesn’t have true intentions nor priorities with the girl. Also, no girl would want to go through the humiliation of being the “bait” for one’s catch. If anyone could settle down with their ideal significant other, they won’t think twice about the opportunity. Furthermore, this strategy might also create confusion, which can lead to questioning the girl’s purpose in this scenario. This advice could ruin a girl’s concept of guys and discourage her from searching. This advice only demonstrates the unwillingness and immature side of the guy, which can be disheartening for many.

Say Yes to Writing/Composition and Rhetoric and Writing Studies Courses

All college students should be required to take a Writing/Composition course because it’ll improve overall writing, which can aid in getting a decent paying job, and Rhetoric and Writing Studies because we must learn how to communicate as it changes over time. When creating a PowerPoint presentation, resume, or even a job application, having proper grammar is required unless we don’t want to be taken seriously. According to Kaleigh Moore, “73.4% of employers want a candidate with strong written communication skills.” Also, we might fool ourselves to think that this course is unnecessary, yet 67 percent of students in Baltimore were required to take writing remedial courses, according to Sarah Butrymowicz; the more practice and feedback we get, the more experience we obtain. Also, since mankind progresses, it’s important to adapt to new terminology and/or methods of communication that’s familiar to our generation. For example, the usage of phones has shaped the way we contact each other, which can help us decide how to approach an audience during a presentation. If we don’t earn the interest of our listeners, how can we ever convey our intentions? With these courses combined, one has the idea on the fundamentals of writing, which can be incorporated into everyday life: to interact and represent ourselves with a purpose.

Why We Should Bring Back Cursive

Elementary schools should teach cursive handwriting to students because it’s a lost art, takes less time on creating notes, and a convenient way to communicate with the elderly. To start off, before the typewriter was invented, one way that individuals communicated was by writing letters in cursive to one another (after it was simplified from the Spencerian penmanship, according to Jennie Cohen). Even though cursive is part of our history/development, we prefer the quickest strategies to accomplish our daily tasks, so we set aside our past. Secondly, jotting down notes in cursive can be of good use simply because of the writing utensil lifts per word, (rather than per letter when writing in print) which saves time to take a few seconds of a break, or even catch up on a lecture or meeting. Lastly, most of the elders around us learned to write using cursive. Noticing that older generations have some trouble with using a phone or laptop, they could prefer writing. Even if they did know how to maneuver around technology, in any case, that the technological devices fail on them, both the sender and receiver can fall back onto cursive to communicate. Although cursive was the start of an innovative world, has helped individuals connect, it’s been underappreciated by a society who doesn’t see value in old-fashion strategieswhich is unfortunate since we won’t be able to spread that gratitude for complex, yet elegant, looking writing to our future generations.
